Welcome to Cal-Alta Web Designs. We design web sites for both business and personal use. What is "Web Design?" Do we not build web sites? Do we only design them? We do both, but where does the idea of web design come from? Many web designers still tend to call themselves " Web Masters. Actual web design has been going on for some time, and it used to be mainly done by computer programers. They actually build the sites, back in the days of DOS ( Disk Operating System). This was the fore runner to the Windows system we have today. It was a lot harder back then to navigate around your computer, not like today, point and click. The sites mainly had been the B.B.S ( Bulletin Board Site). I still find the odd BBS address laying around my office. As the internet grew, it no longer was a place for just programmers. Designers came into the picture too. So now we had two groups of people working on designing and building web sites. The programers and Designers. We at Cal-Alta Web Design have joined both of these two groups together. There are several factors to Web Design. You can have a web that has all the bells and whistles and yet no one will see it as it may take too long to load. On the other hand, you may have a very fast upload time, but no content. We try to balance this out, by providing shorter upload time without giving up too much of the content. Some people think that some sites have too many pictures in them. That a lot of sites would be far better off without them. We try to harmonize this by balancing how many pictures and how they are placed within a site. There is always a trade off when you try and down size a picture too much. We try and balance this out by the look of the picture. True if the picture is too large in size it will take some time to load into the browser. If the picture is too small, you may find that the resolution is lost. Basically the question comes down to, how much do you want the picture on the site? Do people who surf the net want to even see pictures? If they did not then they would disable their viewer in their internet browser, in which case it wouldn't matter anyway how many pictures you have in your site. Majority of people however do not disable it. They like to see the pictures, and other information displayed for their view. We also look at who the web site is build for. Do the people you want to see your site, have cable connections or still the modem connection? Do they have older browsers or are they more up to date with their equipment? These are just a few of the factors that we have to calculate into your web design. We rebuild our own web site as we felt that this new look would be faster loading and over all more pleasing to look at then our old site. We try to keep up with what technology has to offer and how this plays a factor in the web site of tomorrow.
